Greetings companions, welcome to our Middle-earth chronicle. It is now the year 3011 of the Third Age and the Shadow is stirring. Seven decades ago, a coalition of Elves, Men, and Dwarves crushed a legion of Orcs and Wargs beneath a sky choked by Giant Bats, launching a brief age of hope for the Free Peoples. Yet seventy years is a long time for peace to endure, and within the world’s forgotten pits a darkness is stretching once more.

Reports of eerie events beyond the fringes of charted realms are surfacing with growing frequency and, though ignored by many as mere legends or nursery fables, they occasionally find the attention of souls who perceive the grim reality they mask.

These are driven soldiers, sentinels, knights, inquisitive lore-masters and scouts, ever ready to recover what was vanished or tread where others fear. Common folk brand them adventurers and, should they succeed, they laud them as legends & protectors. But if they perish, not a soul will recall their names.

Old-School Essentials is a tabletop role-playing game system that builds upon the core rules of B/X "Basic & Expert", B/X Essentials and Old-School Essentials (OSE) Classic/Advanced Fantasy. It incorporates elements and options from Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st Edition, such as additional classes, races, spells, and monsters, while maintaining the simpler, more streamlined rules of Basic/Expert "B/X" Dungeons & Dragons.

Key features:
Old-School Essentials is a retroclone, meaning it's designed to emulate the feel and mechanics of older versions of Dungeons & Dragons.

• B/X Foundation: It retains the core mechanics and feel of the original B/X D&D, which was popular in the 1980s & is still widely played to this day.
• AD&D Integration: It includes optional rules, classes, races, and spells from Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st Edition, allowing players to experience a wider range of character options and game elements.
• Expanded Content: It includes additional magic items, spells, and monsters, adding more depth & complexity to the game.
• Flexible Gameplay: The game offers optional rules for character creation, combat, and spell acquisition, allowing for a more tailored experience.
• Modern Layout: Necrotic Gnome uses a modern layout and clear presentation, making it easy to learn and reference during play.
• House Ruling: With it being compatible with systems like Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, BECMI, BX and "to an extent" AD&D 2nd edition it is easy to house rule in mechanics and rules from these systems.
