This will be my first Old-School Essentials Advanced Fantasy system that I've ever ran, since for pretty much my entire gaming life, "I've ran Advanced Dungeons & Dragons exclusively". I am basing all of this off of the Adventures in Middle-earth system, converting it to Old-School Essentials. I'll be running adventures from various game systems for Middle-earth like, Middle-earth Roleplaying (MERP), The One Ring, Adventures in Middle-earth, Lord of the Rings 5e & the Lord of the Rings RPG. These will then be converted/reskinned to the Old-School Essentials system. It'll work, trust me *wink wink*.
- Here is our Race & Class page.
- House Rules: We do have a few "quality of life" house rules to help make the game run a little smoother and be slightly more forgiving than it is in it's current form. These rules may change over time.
- About Our Campaign: Here you can read all about our Middle-earth campaign.
- Journals Page: This is where my players can find everything they need to know about our campaign.
- You can reach me on Discord by sending me a friend request to the name RPGrandPa.
- Facebook: You can also find me on Facebook.
- Email: If all else fails, my email is jamesefullard@gmail.com
Alright, now for the good stuff lol I hope you made it this far. This campaign will take place online using Roll20/Discord - so, Roll20 will be used for character sheets, dice roles, and maps. Discord will used for our voice audio. I "might" do local recordings of our campaigns, if I do, we will use reactive portraits instead of webcams.
I also want to talk about this new system I have put together for my Middle-earth campaigns and the style of games that you can expect. Middle-earth is a low magic campaign setting, meaning you're not going to find magical items casually scattered around on the floor of dungeons and you will not see Wizards running around casting Fireballs at everything. Sure, magical items do exist but when they are discovered, they are unique, extremely rare and actually mean something, it won't be like . . . oh, you find a +1 short sword over in the large chest, it will be items like the Shortbow of Címóníemor or Boots of the River-Maiden, items like these, and they will be super rare finds.
In standard Dungeons & Dragons games characters might level to mid/high levels and retire with 10-15 magical items, in Middle-earth a character might level from 1-14 and retire having 2, maybe 3 magical items through his/her entire adventuring career, that is how it would be in Middle-earth campaigns.
We are using Old-School Essentials Advanced Fantasy as our core system rules. Basically we are using Old-School Essentials Advanced Fantasy with "some" house rules" and some "slight" adjustments to the races and classes " a slight reskinning of them to bring them over to the Middle-earth setting".
You can find all of the playable races & classes, that will be available to play. Most of these have either been reskinned, adjusted and some are completely homebrewed from scratch. Basically all of our adventures/campaigns will come from various Middle-earth systems but will be retooled to Old-School Essentials Advanced Fantasy. All playable classes will have level caps locked to level 14 which is basically where they are set at in the Adventures in Middle-earth TTRPG "it's kind of an unwritten rule for most".Keep in mind, we might be using adventures from The One Ring, Adventures in Middle-earth & Lord of the Rings 5e, Middle-earth Roleplaying "MERP" and any other system that covers/supports Middle-earth but no matter what we use, it will be converted to Old-School Essentials. The goal is to keep the core of our system Old-School Essentials Advanced Fantasy but with a few 1st edition house rules and some slight adjustments to the class sheets. This is a brand new "modified" system that I came up with for Middle-earth that has never been tested.
I am sure we will encounter bugs that will need to be ironed out and fixed but overall I think I have it pretty well hammered out. I want to run my games as classic as possible but give my players a little more expansive style of play at the same time. The reason for me doing the Old-School Essentials conversion is, the Adventures in Middle-earth TTRPG system uses 5th edition which is no where close to be classic so I am sure Old-School Essentials will work just fine.
One last thing . . . we are "eastern standard time" players, we have one from the UK and his schedule is opposite of what ours is, but luckily he stays up all night but for future players we prefer to bring in players from the USA with similar time zones as ours, it just makes things easier to schedule play times/dates.
Rules
• Other Games During Game Time: Look, be respectful and while we are playing D&D, don't have World of Warcraft pulled up in the background etc. etc. Either you want to play in our campaign or you don't. Just be respectful please, your DM puts in a lot of hard work to try and give his players a good solid game.
• Be Mature: We are all adults, please ... let us all act like adults when we play. (no need to elaborate on this any more - this should come naturally)
